ABOUT THE FLORIDA KEYS
The Florida Keys a chain of 43 islands connected by 42 bridges and the Overseas Highway. The most famous bridge is the 7 Mile Bridge which connects Marathon to the Lower Keys. The chain of islands is divided into three sections: The Upper Keys which consists of Key Largo, Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe Key and Lower Matecumbe Key. The Middle Keys includes Duck Key, Grassy Key, Key Colony Beach and Marathon. The Lower Keys is dominated by Big Pine Key (home of the Key Deer) and the surrounding smaller islands. The City of Key West is the Southernmost point in the Unites States.
The climate is tropical which affords lush vegetation and brilliant flowers. The Keys offers palm trees swaying in the ocean breezes, beautiful waters in an array of turquoise and blues in addition to diverse animal and marine life. Straddling the island chain is North America’s only living coral barrier reef just 6 miles off shore in depths of 15-30 feet. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular. It really is paradise!
